Understand roles and permissions

I want to …

… know what Owner, Admin, and Member can do.

Before you start

  • Every workspace has exactly one Owner.
  • All three roles can edit content (cards, notes).

Here's how

  1. Open Members. Each name shows Owner, Admin, or Member.
  2. Member works on the board, notes, and timer. Adding columns, limits, boards, invites, and the workspace name are locked. New board and Board settings are missing from the board menu.
  3. Admin can also manage boards (create, rename, and delete them, plus columns, limits, and task-module defaults) and invite or remove members.
  4. Owner can do everything an admin can, plus change roles, delete the workspace, or hand off ownership.
  5. Only the owner changes roles: open the three-dot menu on another person's row and pick Make admin or Make member. A dialog explains the change, confirm it.
  6. As owner: in the same menu, pick Make owner. Type the person's name exactly as shown in the list to unlock the button. You become an admin.
  7. Admins only see Remove member in that menu. Members see no menu at all.
  8. Owners cannot leave the workspace until they transfer ownership.

The result

You know which controls your role can see and whom to ask for columns or invites.

Common questions

Can there be two owners?

No. Make owner hands the role over completely.

Why do I have to type a name?

Ownership transfer cannot be undone by you afterwards, so the dialog asks for the name to rule out mistaps. Role changes between Admin and Member only need one confirmation click.

Can an admin promote someone?

No. Admins invite and remove people, but only the owner moves anyone between Admin and Member.

Can a member open Settings?

Yes, but workspace name, delete, and member management are missing or inactive. Task-module defaults live under Board settings, which members do not see.
