Set a column limit

I want to …

… give a column an optional limit so I can see when too much work sits there.

Before you start

  • You need Owner or Admin.
  • Done cannot have a limit.
  • A limit is a warning, not a hard lock. You can still drop cards into the column.

Here's how

  1. Open Board and find the column header.
  2. Tap the limit badge next to the name – or open the three-dot menu and choose Column limit.
  3. Under Limit type pick:
    • No limit – hide the badge.
    • Task count – maximum number of cards.
    • Fibonacci sum – sum of Fibonacci estimates on cards in the column.
    • Time sum – sum of time estimates.
  4. Enter the number under Limit, for example 5 for at most five cards.
  5. Save. The header now shows something like 3/5 or 8/13 pts.
  6. If you drop more than the limit allows, the badge becomes Column limit exceeded. The card still stays.

The result

The column shows load against the limit. Crossing it is visible but does not block you.

Common questions

Why does the Fibonacci sum not change?

Only cards with a Fibonacci estimate count. Cards with no estimate or a time estimate do not add to that sum.

Can I set a limit on Focus?

Yes. Focus still holds only one card; the limit is then mainly a visible hint.
